Board of Directors

The Constitution of the Australian Pro Bono Centre provides that the Board will comprise not more than 14 Directors. Each of the following constituencies may nominate one Director: PIAC, Pro Bono Clearing Houses, UNSW Law Dean, The Law Society of Western Australia, the Law Council of Australia, the Legal Profession, Community Legal Centres, Community Organisations, University Law Schools and the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia. There is a process for each of those constituencies to make the nominations.

In addition, the Board may appoint two Directors who reside in areas and communities not otherwise represented on the Board, two Directors who the Board believes have special expertise to offer the Centre and two directors who are legal practitioners with experience or expertise in the provision of pro bono legal services. The Board’s discretion is exercised as it considers necessary to ensure the Board has the skills, expertise and diversity to function effectively in service of the objectives of the Centre.

Director terms are generally capped at three terms of three years each.
