Jessica Hatherall,
Head of Policy and Strategy at the Australian Pro Bono Centre
Jessica Hatherall joined as the Head of Policy & Strategy at the Australian Pro Bono Centre in July 2019. Prior to joining the Centre, Jessica was a member of the senior management team for Justice Centre Hong Kong, a human rights organisation working to protect the rights of forced migrants.
Jessica is a U.S. and U.K. qualified lawyer with over a decade of leadership, legal, policy, operational and business development experience across a wide range of sectors including: NGO, start up, film and corporate. She has provided legal assistance in Hong Kong, Sydney, London, and Washington, DC. as a caseworker and policy officer, corporate lawyer, in-house counsel and pro bono lawyer.
Jessica has worked on social justice issues throughout her career. She gained NGO leadership and policy experience through her most recent role at Justice Centre Hong Kong. At Justice Centre, Jessica managed the pro bono partnerships program which consisted of 10 multinational law firm partners and three university human rights clinic partners. She facilitated over 80 pro bono lawyers annually to assist with individual legal cases and policy work. Jessica has also helped grow pro bono capacity in Australasia through her involvement at the 2017 and 2018 Asia Pro Bono conference.
Jessica holds a Master’s degree in Human Rights Law from the University of Hong Kong. She completed her Juris Doctor at the Washington College of Law, American University and Bachelor of Arts in Government from the University of Virginia. Jessica currently also volunteers as the Co-Chair of the Business and Human Rights Subcommittee for Australian Lawyers for Human Rights.
