By the Numbers: Areas of Law and Practice
When asked “… what were the top five areas of law and practice in which your firm in Australia spent time providing pro bono legal services..?”, respondents to the Fourth National Law Firm Pro Bono Survey of Australian firms with fifty or more lawyers most often included:
- Employment Law – 23 firms
- Governance – 22 firms
- Commercial Agreements – 17 firms
- Deductible Gift Recipient Status (DGR) Applications – 15 firms; and
- Intellectual Property – 12 firms.
Respondents were then asked to list the top five areas of law and practice in which their firms were “…required to reject the most requests for assistance”. Their answers most often included:
- Family Law (not including Family Violence) – 19 firms;
- Criminal Law – 12 firms;
- Deductible Gift Recipient Status (DGR) Applications – 9 firms;
- Wills/Probate/Estate – 9 firms; and
- Immigration – 8 firms.
