By the Numbers: Budgets and Targets
Of the 42 respondents to the Fourth National Law Firm Pro Bono Survey of Australian firms with 50 or more lawyers, 31 (76%) set some sort of overall budget or target for their pro bono legal work in the 2014 financial year, including all eight firms in Australia with 450 or more lawyers (which in the Survey were referred to as the “Group A” firms).
The Centre was pleased to see that, of these, the majority (61%, or 19 firms) reported that their budget or target was larger than that set two years previously. This included five of the eight Group A firms.
Seven firms (23%) advised that their target or budget was “the same” as two years before, including the other three Group A firms. Pro bono coordinators from four firms (13%) did not know.
Only one firm, with less than 200 lawyers, reported that their budget or target was smaller.
