Free volunteer practising certificates now available in five jurisdictions
In response to the Centre’s continued advocacy, free volunteer practising certificates are now available in the Australian Capital Territory, Queensland, Victoria, Western Australia and New South Wales.
WA lawyers can now access the Centre’s free PI Scheme
Western Australian lawyers can now access free professional indemnity insurance through the Centre’s National Pro Bono Professional Indemnity Insurance Scheme. The Scheme provides free PI insurance to lawyers and paralegals working on approved pro bono projects.

Victorian Government announces Access to Justice review
On 22 October 2015 the Victorian Department of Justice & Regulation announced that it would be conducting a review into access to justice in Victoria, including the provision and distribution of pro bono legal services.
Anti-Poverty Week – 40 years after the Sackville Report
As part of Anti-Poverty Week 2015, UNSW Law and the Australian Human Rights Centre jointly convened a workshop to assess the extent of legal change in the four decades since the release of the Second Main Report of the Commission of Inquiry into Poverty, and to examine the challenges presented by poverty to lawyers, policy-makers and legal scholars.
The Australian Pro Bono Centre is hiring (parental leave cover)
The Centre invites suitable candidates to apply for its currently advertised position of Senior Policy Officer (0.8 FTE, 4 days a week). The opportunity is a parental leave cover role for the period January – September 2016.
By the Numbers: Areas of Law and Practice
Only 12% of large law firms regularly rotate graduates through their formal pro bono practices, according to the most recent National Law Firm Pro Bono Survey of Australian firms with 50 or more lawyers.
