Centre appears before the Joint Select Committee on Australia’s Family Law System
19 March 2020
On Friday 13 March 2020, the Centre appeared before the Joint Select Committee on Australia’s Family Law System.
The Committee received 535 submissions in response to its Inquiry into Australia’s Family Law System. The Centre was selected as one of 17 organisations to give evidence at the 13 March public hearing of the Committee in Sydney.
The Centre was represented at the public hearing by Jessica Hatherall (Head of Policy and Strategy) and Sally Embelton (Policy and Project Officer). They appeared before a panel comprised of the Chair, Hon Kevin Andrews MP, the Deputy Chair, Senator Pauline Hanson, and Committee members Senator Claire Chandler, Dr Fiona Martin MP, Mr Graham Perrett MP, Senator Helen Polley, Ms Zali Steggall OAM MP, and Senator Larissa Waters.
It was an excellent opportunity for the Centre to advocate for more funding for legal assistance services, and for additional research on the pro bono work of family law practitioners.
