2020 Virtual Walks for Justice
20 May 2020
On National Pro Bono Day (19 May 2020) Virtual Walks for Justice were held in Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia. These walks aim to unite communities and raise vital funds for access to justice organisations.
The Queensland Legal Walk raised funds for LawRight. This year LawRight asked participants to walk on their own (or in a small groups) in their community. Over 100 teams and more than 400 participants registered. To date, LawRight has raised over $150,000. Look at #Qld LegalWalk for images and posts from the day.
In Western Australia, the Law Access Walk for Justice raised a record $96,271 (including a generous donation of $50,000 from the McCusker Charitable Foundation). Participants were asked to walk 4.4km around their homes or neighbourhoods while listening to a special podcast. The podcast included interviews with pro bono lawyers and members of the judiciary about pro bono work, inspiring access to justice stories and tips for unwinding and maintaining optimism in these challenging times. You can listen to it here. Check out #W4J2020 for posts and images from the day.
In South Australia, the Walk for Justice raised funds for JusticeNet SA. More than 350 participants set a goal of walking 10,000 steps or 5km around the house, on a treadmill or in a local park. To date, JusticeNet SA has raised over $47,000. Pictures and videos of the walk can be found here or using the hashtag #walkforjustice2020.
If you would like to donate to these incredible organisations, there’s still time to contribute!
