The Centre’s National Pro Bono Professional Indemnity Insurance Scheme (Scheme) has now been approved by the Legal Practice Board of Western Australia (LPBWA), following the introduction of the Uniform Law in WA.

This means that if you’re a lawyer that would like to undertake pro bono work in WA, but you can’t be covered by any other professional indemnity insurance for that work, you can now access the Centre’s Scheme regardless of your practising certificate type. You just need to make an application to the Centre for coverage of your pro bono project under the Scheme.

The Scheme provides free PI insurance to lawyers and paralegals working on pro bono projects approved by the Centre. You can find out more about the Scheme (and download the application form) here.

Previously, only lawyers holding a volunteer practising certificate in WA were able to access the Scheme.

Once your application is approved by the Centre, you should notify the LPBWA of your second place of practice for the volunteer work (if applicable).
